Levi LOFFLAND

"Old Soldier Hears The Last Roll Call."

The following regarding the death of an old soldier was taken from Tuesday's Worthington Times:

"Levi LOFFLAND, departed this life at his home in Worthington, May 19, 1916, aged sixty-seven years, five months and two days.[b.17 Dec 1848]

He came of a family of eight children. Mrs. Amanda ROGERS, of Wheatland, Tex.; is the only one surviving.

When eight years old his father removed the family from Ohio to Greene county, and settled near Solsberry, where he grew to manhood. The remainder of his life has been spent in and near Worthington.

When the Civil war broke out he was too young to answer the call but in the last year of the war he enlisted in CO I, 145TH INDIANA REGIMENT, serving till the close of conflict and was honorably discharged.

In 1869 he married Charlotte POPE, and to this union was born four children, namely: John LOFFLAND, of Solsberry; William LOFFLAND, of Park; Dennis LOFFLAND and Mrs. Ira SECREST, of Calvertsville.

The wife and mother of these children was called away by death when William was an infant, leaving them to the care of the father and Miss Sina POPE, who proved to be an efficient and faithful foster mother, caring for the children tenderly

Dec. 10, 1880, he married Mrs. Susannah COATLEY, a widow with two small children, whom he took into his home and heart and proved to be a true and faithful father. To this union was born three sons, Walter, Warren and Roy, one of whom died in infancy.

The two step-daughters are Mrs. George FULLER, of Worthington, and Mrs. Noah WALTERS, of Elliston.

He had been in declining health since February 1915. But since January of this year has been constant sufferer. Yet always cheerful and ready to receive any and all visitors.

Before death came he called his family around him and said it was God's will to take him, and he was ready to go. Saying, "I am at peace with God and all mankind."

Comrade LOFFLAND had been a member of the G. A. R. Post at Worthington for a long time, and at the time of his death was an officer of the posts.

He was a kind and loving husband, a good father and a friend to everybody. He has made the last march and answered the last roll call.
