Samuel H. ROBERTS"Civil War Veteran Dies At Linton Home." Taps sounded Saturday night at 8 o"clock for Samuel H. ROBERTS, aged eighty-four, reducing the ranks of Civil war veterans in Linton community to less than half a dozen. The one of the few remaining soldiers of the Civil war passed away last evening at the home of a son, Samuel H. ROBERTS, Jr., in South Linton. The aged veteran suffered a stroke about six years ago. This was followed by another stroke Wednesday morning, which proved fatal to the vet. Mr. ROBERTS, was born in Rone, Tennessee, December 31, 1849. He was a volunteer in the Civil war, serving with COMPANY I, NINTH REGIMENT TENNESSEE CAVALRY. He enlisted in the service on January 26,1864, being a soldier when only fifteen years of age. He was inspired to enlist for the war since his father, James J. ROBERTS, was a captain during the Civil war. Mr. ROBERTS served in the Civil war until he was honorably discharged September 11, 1865. During the pasty thirty-two years the aged veteran made Linton his home. |
