Linda Godwin Wicksten: Fri, 28 Nov 1997 I am trying to find information on my Great Grandparents. Amanda Margaret aka Maggie SWAGGERTY and William T. GODWIN. What I do have came from a 1900 Census in Greene Co., IN, Wright Twp. William was born 12-1833 in DE. He was married twice before he married Maggie. And he was 66 and she was 37 in 1900! A 1900 IN Census lists his middle initial as F. I know for a fact that it was T. for Thompson. Margaret aka Maggie (the Census shows Margaret) was born 5-1863 in IN. her maiden name was SWAGGERTY. She married George GENTRY and they had Emma F b. 3-1882 and John b. 3-1884 both in IN. Then Margaret married Elijah SECREST (several spellings) and they had Franklin A. b. 7-1886 in IN. Then she married my Great Grandfather William T. GODWIN and they had: Carrie E. GODWIN b. 3-1890 in Jasonville, IN. Carrie had long red hair at the age of 21 and was a stage actress, she was married and she died in a house fire that burned her home with her in it. I NEED info on her, Maud S. GODWIN b. 2-1892 in Jasonville, IN. she died at abt age 22 of Diphtheria, in IN. William Thompson GODWIN b. 9-1895 in Jasonville, IN he is my Grandfather, he later married Ahletha ATTEBERRY aka Lela Atterberry in 1915, and moved to Caddo, OK. and Marietta GODWIN b. 3-1897 in Jasonville and in 1915 she married Richard Bledsoe. Margurite aka Maggie possibly ran a Boarding House in Jasonville, IN and she died in 1916. William T. died and she married Asa MAYFIELD. It is said that William T & Maggie owned houses and property in Jasonville, IN. Also an Uncle of mine, my fathers brother, says all the ones that died are buried in Jasonville. I do not know that for a fact. ANY and ALL information would be appreciated. I am looking for information on all the families of William & Margaret. The Gentry's, Secrest's AND Godwin's and any other family they may have had. Thank you very much. I do not know where William Godwin is buried, I need to find what happened to Carrie Godwin and Maggie's children with Gentry & Secrest. Also Ahletha ATTEBERRY aka Lela Atterberry GODWIN is said to be buried in Aylesworth, Oklahoma but I can not find her grave, any help would be appreciated. Linda ll13@intercomm.com (LL and the # 13)

In 1817, Simon DRAKE and Patience GREGORY married in Wake Co., NC. They remained in NC where 6 known children were born until 1840 when Patience was found as head of household on the Greene Co., IN federal census with these 6 children as slashmarks. In 1852, Thomas M. Drake, born 1827 in NC (but he believed TN or KY), married Sarah A. SMITH, daughter of Anderson and Elizabeth SYKE SMITH, all three born in NC but Elizabeth died shortly before pre-1850 move to Greene Co., IN where Anderson and second wife, Nancy, were found on the census. (Nancy also was born and married in NC.) On the 1860 Worthington, Greene Co., IN federal census, Thomas, Sarah, son William Joe, and daughter Mary were found. By 1870 they had left the area, Sarah and Mary were dead, and Thomas was with his new wife and had a daughter in Indian Territory. James Drake, Thomas's brother, remained in Greene Co., IN for many years. I'd like any information I could possibly get on Uncle James Drake. Shirley

I was told that my great-great-grandmother, MARY ELLEN HARRISON, was born April 4, 1840, in Greene Co., Indiana, and she died August 3, 1916. It would be nice to know if that is correct. I would like to know who her parents were because I was told that she was related to President Benjamin HARRISON, a cousin. She married ISAAC FERGUSON who was born in 1830 in Kentucky. Their children were: George W., Sarah, Jennie L. (my great-grandmother), James, John, Charles and Ella. George W. FERGUSON was a photographer in Springfield, Missouri. Jennie married David REPASS and they owned The Grand View Hotel in Hawthorne, Colorado. Their daughter, Pansy, my grandmother, was born in Missouri and she became a famous artist who also lived in Colorado, and New Mexico. She married Roscoe STOCKTON, who taught English and radio drama at the University of Denver. I am planning to put together a family history book for my grand-children and would like to see how far back in the line information can be found and verify what I do know.

Researching the AYERS family and am looking for any information on a George W. Ayers that is listed in the 1840 census for Greene County, IN. He is shown as being 30 - 40 years of age and living with a female of 30 - 40 years of age. There were 4 or 5 children noted (it is hard to read the marks), 2 males below 5 years, 1 male 5 - 10, 1female below 5 , and 1 female 5 - 10. The total headcount for the family is 6 which means either the total is incorrect or that one of the marks for one of the children is in error. Any information on this family would be truly appreciated.

HASH, & Related families. In 1773 the HASH family settled on the New River in Virginia. "OLD JOHN HASH" b. abt. 1708, and is believed to of died Apr. 13, 1784, in what is now Grayson Co., Va.. His son WILLIAM HORTON HASH [b. 1740/50, and d. aft 1820 ] lived and died in Grayson Co., Va.. It is WILLIAM's son ANDREW HASH that we [ the Whitley County, Ky., & Greene Co., In.] descend from . ANDREW HASH was b. 1775/1780 in Grayson Co., VA. There on Feb. 25, 1805 he married NANCY HART HASH b. abt 1784, Va., and died in Greene Co., Indiana between 1850/1860. ANDREW & NANCY HART HASH migrated to Whitley Co., Kentucky, in the 1820's. They were the parents of; PETER b. abt 1806, WILLIAM 1810-1890, JOHN b. abt. 1810, AHART 1815-1890, MARGARET b. abt. 1816, STEPHEN b. abt. 1820-1879, and we believe there was a last child, CECELIA b. abt. 1825. The older son PETER left descendants in Pulaski, Laurel, Bell, counties in S.E. Ky., but also apparently spent time in Greene Co., In. WILLIAM 's family mostly stayed in the CORBIN, KENTUCKY area. MARGARET apparentl was married to a ANDERSON, and along with siblings STEPHEN , JOHN, AHART, & CECELIA??? lived in Greene County. The move to Greene Co., followed a seperation, and in 1845 a divorce between ANDREW & NANCY , in Whitley Co., Ky. As far as I can tell, all the HASH families in Greene County are descendant's of this family. I am still looking for a burial place for NANCY HART HASH, her children MARGARET, &CECELIA??. I have located graves for the sons, except for PETER. The family that stayed in Kentucky are most all buried at Corinth Cemetery, Corbin, Kentucky. Again in the early 1900's a group of my HASH families moved to Greene County. ANDREW & NANCY HART HASH's great grand children moved to [ I believe ] the Linton area. These were my grand mother's [ IDA HASH ALSIP 1903-1996 ] uncles. I have found that her uncle JOSEPH HASH apparently stayed in Greene for a time, and had a family there. The others apparently moved onto the Chicago area before they all but my grand mother's dad JOHN HASH & one sister LUCY JANE HASH ASHER VANTREESE [ which stayed in Corbin, Ky. ] settled early on in Eureka , California. Eventually JOSEPH HASH settled there to be with his brothers & sisters. JOSEPH died in Ca., but I have found traces of his family in the Linton area. His grand children should be older adults now. In my research I have found several families in Greene County, from S.E. Kentucky [ Laurel, Whitley, Pulaski, Knox , counties, Ky. ]. I am looking for other descendants of my HASH family. I will exchange info upon request. THANKS! Steven H. Alsip, 1897 5th Street Road, Corbin, Kentucky 40701-9590 ph# 606/523-2700. email, madmax@2geton.net

Swango and Weber famlies in Greene County, Indiana
Dear Friends:
In a Greene County biography, a copy of which is in the Indiana State Library, there is a biography of Abraham Swango, a Civil War veteran and a Greene County farmer. He maried a woman from the Jackson family, and had several children, including one son, Forest. Abraham was born in Gallatin County, Kentucky, the son of Abraham Swango and Rachall Bruce, from Dearborn County, Indiana. Abraham was born in 1844, after his father's death. After Abraham, Senior's death in 1844, Rachall took her children to Dearborn County, Indiana. There she married a man from the Cheek family, and they had children. One child was MacDonald Cheek who was tried and convicted of murder--someplace around Dearborn County, Indiana. Later (I don't know what happened to the Cheek husband; I assume he died), the family moved enmasse to Oolitic, Indiana (Lawrence County--adjacent to Greene County) to work in the stone quarries there (assumed). Apparently, Rachall never lived in Oolitic, but lived in Greene County, where she married one Jacob Weber (Webber?). Rachall died in Greene county, and is buried in a cemetery around Owensburg, Greene County, Indiana. It would be most helpful to have a copy of Abrahm Swango's biography, as it appears in Greene Conty Biographies (?) circa 1888. It would also be helpful to have a record of the death of Abraham and his mother Rachall Swango, Cheek,Weber, nee Bruce. It would be of further advantage to have the cemetery records of Rachall Weber and Abraham Swango. In addition, any other information you can supply about the Swango and Weber families will be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks.
Best and warmest personal regards.
Cecil

Dan Mullin Tue, 18 Mar 1997 18:52:26 -0700
I'm curious to see if anyone has any additional information on the Mullin family. The farthest back I can find is James Mullin, b. 1810 and Anne Elliot, b. 1814 in OH, married March 25, 1839 in Guernsey Co, OH. Anne died in 1872 in Greene Co, followed by James in 1883. I have found one son, Robert James Mullin, b. 1860 in Noble Co, OH. He was married in Greene Co. on May 31, 1883 to Mary Eliza Newton, b. Jan 4, 1866 in Greene Co. Robert died March 5, 1949 in Greene Co. followed by his wife on Dec 2 1949 in Owen Co. A son, Edward E Mullin (my grandfather) was born Sep 19, 1887 in Greene Co. Rumor has it that he worked for a time in the brickyards around Bloomfield. I would really like to either chase down any more decendents from either James/Anne or Robert/Mary Eliza (if there are any) or try to find an ancestor to James. If you're in Bloomfield and see either Jonas or James Uland, tell them Danny Boy says "Hi!". Thanks in advance.
