Edmund Ray EARLY

Edmund Ray EARLY, son of William L. and Anna G. EARLY, was born in Howard Co. Ind. 3 Nov 1895.
On 3 Apr 1918, he left Kokomo for Ft. Hamilton NY and a little later he was transferred to Ft. Wadsworth L.I. where on 1 Jun he was assigned to Bat. D 70th Coast Artillery Corps.
He sailed for overseas 18 Jul 1918 and landed at Brest, France. After serving 7 months, he sailed from St. Nazaire, 12 Feb 1919 and landed at Hoboken NJ.
His discharge was granted at Camp Sherman, Ohio 12 Mar 1919.

Ross Milo EARLY

Ross Milo EARLY, son of W.L. and Anna G. TEMPLETON EARLY, was born in Howard Co, Ind. 10 Nov 1880. His wife is Belva ALBRIGHT EARLY.
He began his army service at Camp Zachary Taylor, 4 Sep 1918 and later was on duty at Camp Knox, where he was assigned to Headquarters Co. 70th Field Artillery as a cook.
He recieved his discharge at Stithton, Ky. 31 Dec 1918.

EARLY, Ross Milo - died 7 Nov 1940, buried 9 NOV 1940. Age 49. Crown Point Cemetery: Section 19, lot 93.
EARLY, Belvie L. - died 22 Mar 1925, buried 24 MAR 1925. Age 34. Crown Point Cemetery: Section 19, lot 93.

Justin January EDEN

Justin January EDEN, son of A.L. and Betty DAWLTON EDEN, was born 12 Jan 1898 at Grange City, N.Y.
Later, he moved to Kokomo, Ind., where he was a student in the high school.
On 7 Apr 1917, the day after America declared war, he enlisted and after a short period at Ft. Thomas Ky, he was sent to Ft. Delaware Md. where he spent 16 months in the coast artillery.
After a month at Camp Eustis, Va, and two weeks at Newport News, Va, he sailed for France 7 Oct 1918.
He again reached Newport News Va. early in March 1919 and was mustered out of the army at Camp Zachary Taylor Ky. 29 Mar 1919.

The ERTEL/URTEL Family

The ERTEL/URTEL family can trace back to Bavaria, arriving in America circa 1820.
Philip and Mary LUDY ERTEL (m. 1829 PA) settled in Philadelphia, where Charles ERTEL was born in 1833. Other children are listed [no dates].
The family came to Rush Co. IN in 1847, where both Philip and Mary died (1874 & 1887).
Charles ERTEL married Priscilla DAVID in 1858 - they had 3 children [names, but no dates] Priscilla died around 1857, and Philip married Rowena HOUSTON 24 Mar 1870. Her parents were John & Susan HOUSTON of Fairfield Co. OH [no birthdate for Rowena or her parents].
Charles and Rowena had 9 children, including Ida May ERTEL [names, but no dates].
Charles died in 1921 & is buried in Raleigh IN, as is Rowena, who died in 1907. Charles' descendants live in Rush, Madison, Grant and Howard Counties.
