William Charles HARSHEY

William Charles HARSHEY, son of William and Elizabeth HARSHEY, was born in Martinsville, Indiana in 1892.
He enlisted in Kokomo, Ind. 18 Apr 1917 and after a period of intensive training, he was sent to France with Battery B., 15th F.A.
He was wounded in April, 1918, but at the end of 3 months treatment, he was back fighting at the front; then , in December, he was sent to Rhine Valley, where he remained until his return home in August, 1919.

HAWK, Ray Clifton

HAWK, Ray Clifton, son of J.B. And Mrs. HAWK was born April 27, 1895. For almost five years he served in the United States Navy, rated as chief coxswain's mate and in July 1919, he was located at Cardiff, Wales.

HEINEMAN, Herbert Edward

HEINEMAN, Herbert Edward, son of M. and Addie CLUBBS HEINEMAN, was born 20 Jul 1899 at Granite City, Ill.
On 31 May 1918, he enlisted at Kokomo Ind. for service in the cavalry, but was later transferred to the field artillery and stationed at Camp Jackson S.C. where he learned telegraphy and motor truck driving.
On 4 Jan 1919, he was discharged at Camp Grant, Ill.

Wilson G. HENDRY

Wilson G. HENDRY was born at Hartford City, Ind. He was 22 years of age when he entered the army. When he was discharged at Camp Knox, KY, he was a member of Bat. B 69th F.A.

Fred William HENNINGER

Fred William HENNINGER, son of Charles and Anna HENNIGER, was born in Kokomo Ind 10 Aug 1891.
When he entered the army 21 Sep 1917, he was sent to Camp Zachary Taylor, Ky; then to Camp Sevier S.C. and on 4 Jun 1918, he embarked from Camp Mills for France.
He was on the firing line for two months as a memeber of the 115th F.A. Bat B. 30th Division, known as the "Old Hickory" Division.

Jesse E. HIATT

Jesse E. HIATT, son of Grant (deceased) and Grace SMITH HIATT, was born in Grant Co. Ind. He was educated at Fairmount Academy.
He enlisted 7 Jul 1917 in the hospital corps recruited at Kokomo Ind. After training at Fort Benjamin Harrison Ind. he was sent to Camp Shelby Miss. where he was on duty until 5 Oct 1918. He served at Toul, France for several months and was one of two boys to remain with the company in which he enlisted, all others having transferred to some other contingent before their return to the States.

Henry H. HINDERS

Henry H. HINDERS, son of John H. and Minnie CREVISTON HINDERS was born July 27, 1893 near Janesburgh, Ill.
He enlisted in the army 1 Jul 1917 at Kokomo Ind. and was stationed with Co. E at East Chicago Ind. When he went to Camp Shelby, Miss., a National Guard camp, he bacase a member of the 152nd Infantry, 38th Division.
He was discharged because of physical disability 7 Dec 1917, but was later in the service and went to France in October 1918 with his former contingent.

NOTE: Henry is buried in the North Union Cemetery, Howard County Indiana - death date of 1950. There is no entry for Henry HINDERS born 1893 died 1950 in the Social Security Death Index.

HOLLOPETER, Samuel L.

HOLLOPETER, Samuel L. , son of Brenton S. and Abbie MILLS HOLLOPETER, was born in Leo, Allen Co Ind. In 1905, he graduated from the high school at Noblesville Ind., and in 1909 he completed the course at DePauw University; the next two years were spend at Columbia University.
On June 12th, 1912, he married June Marie HENDEE of Anderson Ind.
After enlisting at Chicago, 13 May 1917, he was commissioned first lieutenant 15 Aug 1917, and assigned to Co. B 311th Engineers. He was advanced to adjutant and then to captain Aug 26, 1918 at Fort Levanworth, Kan. He was also instructor of engineers at Camp Grant, Ill.
He left there Sept 8, 1918 for France.

HOLLOPETER, Vincent Maxwell

HOLLOPETER, Vincent Maxwell, son of Brenton S. and Abbie MILLS HOLLOPETER, was born at Chrubusco, Ind. 28 Aug 1892.
After graduating from the Wabash High School in 1911, he attended DePauw University two years.
He was commissioned first lieutenant, ordance department, Fort Benjamin Harrison, 15 Aug 1917, and promoted to captain 28 Jun 1918 at Washington D.C. where he was on duty in the supply department.
He left for Europe 28 Sep 1918, and landed at Brest, France at the end of a nine days' voyage. He returned to the United States in May 1919, and was discharged soon after.

HULLINGER, John W. son on Truman and Celia E. CALDWELL HULLINGER was born on a farn in Ervin Twp., Howard Co. Ind. twenty-eight years ago [c. 1892].
He was on duty as orderly to his captain at Camp Custer, Detroit Mich., beginning in September 1917 when he enlisted; he also served in the mounted police.

Theodore J. HURSTEL

Theodore J. HURSTEL, son of Theodore and Antionette BINDER HURSTEL, was born in Kokomo, Ind. He was with the A.E.F. in France.

Theodore Sr. and Antoinette HURSTEL are listed in the 1910 Howard County Indiana Census in 5th Ward, Kokomo, page 119B. NOTE: Theodore Jr. is not listed with his parents.
