Submitter: Victoria Cheney [submitter's comments in brackets]

DEATH OF WILLIAM BANKS -- Succumbs after Long Suffering, Member of G.A.R.
William A. BANKS a retired Converse business man died at his home here Monday night [Dec. 3, 1908] after confinement to his bed with severe suffering for the past six months. Funeral services conducted by Revs. J.E. Coffin and W.A. Settle were held at the M. E. church Wednesday.

Banks married a "Hannah IRVIN."] In this family there are three sets of children. To the first wife of Thomas BANKS was born five children, William A. BANKS, Mrs. S.E. KINNEAR [Ella], Mrs. Mary V. WALTERS, and two children who died in infancy. Hannah E. BANKS departed this life in 1849.
Thomas BANKS second marriage was to Jane E. WOOD [should be WOODS]. To this union was born two children, a son who died in infancy and a daughter, Mrs. Harlem Kelsey [should be Mrs. HARLEN KELSAY, nee Matilda Jane "Jennie" BANKS], who resides three miles from Converse [Amboy, Miami Co.].
Thomas BANKS third marriage was to Margaret ARMSTRONG [later as widow Banks, she m2 James J. ANDERSON]. To this union was born five children, Mrs. A.V. DARBY [Mrs. Frank DARBY, nee Alice V. BANKS], James [M.] and Charles [F.] BANKS, two children having died in infancy. Of this third set of children all are gone except Mrs. A.V. DARBY.

He with his parents Thomas W. and Hannah BANKS moved overland from Maryland to Jerome, Ind., in the year 1848. His mother died in Jerome in 1849. The family then moved to Kokomo, Ind.
WAR RECORD
In March 1862 William A. BANKS enlisted in the war, in Company K. 60th Ind. [long list of where he served]. After Ft. Morgan was captured he turned his gun over to the government and was mustered out and came home March 1865.

For the past year he has been a great sufferer. Last September under the guidance of friends and the Pastor of the M. E. church he was led to Christ and was baptized by Rev. J.E.
