THE CALL OF DEATH TO KINDLY WOMAN -- Mrs. Mary H. Chestnut (sp) Passes From Earth -- A Second Stroke of Paralysis Proves Fatal - Was a Woman Much Esteemed
Mrs. Mary H. CHESTNUT (sp) died yesterday morning, at 5 o'clock, at the farm home of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas HARRIS, east of the Grange Hall school, Mrs. Harris being her daughter.
Mrs. Chestnut (sp) was sixty-seven years old, and had been ill since July 22, when she was seized with paralysis. She had gotten a great deal better, but was the victim of a second stroke Thursday, ending in her death.
The funeral will be held at the Harris home tomorrow morning at 11 o'clock and will be in charge of the Rev. H. R. Neely, rector of St. Andrew's church. Since the death of her husband in Anderson, in 1898, she has made her home with her daughter in Kokomo, moving with the Harris family to this city.
Mrs. Mary HUSEY (sp) CHESTNUT (sp) was born in Hillsboro, Ohio, January 21, 1842. Besides Mrs. HARRIS there are two children, Clifford CHESTNUT (sp) and a daughter, Mrs. Lee KIPHART, both of whom reside in the neighborhood of the Harris farm.
Mrs. Chestnut (sp) will be missed as few of the loved dead are missed. She was the personification of the mother of the old school, gracious, kindly, and brimming with affection. She was a woman of culture and refinement. It was noteworthy of her that her good humor was seldom disturbed. It required a trying provocation to impell her to lose her equanimity. She was cheerful in all things and companionable and delightful to be in the presence of, and who, passing to the eternal realms, leaves a vacancy in the household which causes heart aches, and to Ralph Harris, the taking away of his grandmother is to him a matter he can't understand, or reconcile with his ideas of things. The little folks' hearts are grieving and they refuse to be consoled in their hour of sorrow, for them a better grandmother never lived.
Her memory will live enshrined in affection and as often as she is thought of it will be with pleasing thoughts of her goodness and of her kindness toward those she loved so much. The remains will be taken to Anderson, her former home, for burial.
