Geneva M. Quackenbush

Geneva M. Quackenbush, 86, Brownstown, died at 8:55 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 2, 2002, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. She had been ill for several months.

She was a lifetime member of Clearspring Baptist Church and was a homemaker. She formerly was employed at Bell Cleaners and Homestead Restaurant in Bedford. She was a member of American Baptist Women’s Ministries and Gathering Friends Homemaker Club of Bedford. She founded U R Welcome Sunday School Class at Clearspring Baptist Church.

Born Sept. 18, 1915, in Broadlands, Ill., she was a daughter of Leslie Fish and Cleophia Clampitt Fish. On June 24, 1933, in Jackson County, she married William H. Keithley, and he survives. On Dec. 15, 1962, in Jackson County, she married Fred H. Quackenbush, who preceded her in death.

Survivors include a son, Richard (Dorothy) Keithley, Vallonia; a stepson, Don (Vera) Quackenbush, Bedford; a daughter, Shirley (Charles) Hutchinson, Brownstown; a brother, Calvin Warren Fish, Macon, Ga.; two sisters, Janet (Harry) Cummings, Bradenton, Fla., and Roberta (Robert) Weaver, Taylorsville; five grandchildren, Katie Wilson, Seymour, Michelle Conrad and Tim Keithley, both of Brownstown, Chad Keithley, Austin, and Sherri Cozart, Thorntown; a stepgrandson, Ronald Hutchinson; four great-grandchildren, Leslie Conrad, Rachel Conrad and Clayton Keithley, all of Brownstown, and Ethan Wilson, Seymour; and two stepgreat-grandchildren, Jesse Hutchinson and Tessa Hutchinson.

She was preceded in death by a stepdaughter, Ann Quackenbush; two brothers, Doyle Fish and Lowell Fish; and a granddaughter, Jennifer Keithley.

The Rev. David Sawyers and the Rev. Jon Pearce will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Friday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will be in Cresthaven Cemetery, Bedford.

Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from noon until time of service Friday at the funeral home.

Memorials may be given to Clearspring Baptist Church or Hoosier Christian Village Auxiliary.
