MARTIN - John Martin, aged 68 years, died suddenly at his home, two miles east of Kurtz, Tuesday evening, January 20. He had been complaining three or four days but had not been bedfast all the time. Tuesday evening when supper was called he got up and walked into the dining room. He walked back into his room and laid down on the bed. After supper members of the family went into the room again and found him dead on the bed. Mr. Martin was a well known and useful citizen. Funeral Thursday.
Elmer Loftus, the telephone lineman took a dose of medicine at his home of his mother on High street last night. There was some mistake about the medicine and what he took made him wild for the time being. Dr. Graessle and Dr. Kyte were called in and after a while brought him around all right. Elmer is all right today and is at work as usual.
HAYDEN/ Hattie Cudgel and daughter Ethel, who have been visiting Mrs. Cudgel's mother, left for Kokomo Tuesday morning.
HAYDEN/ Shepard Whitcomb, who teaches room No. 3, is laid up with the mumps.
HAYDEN/ Charles Swarthout is here from Indianapolis on business.
HAYDEN/ Beaty Bros. will take one of their engines to Wohrer's saw mill, west of town, to do a lot of sawing for Mr. Wohrer.
HAYDEN/Our esteemed postmaster, D. W. Dodd, is at home again after a four weeks' stay in Indianapolis, where he underwent a successful operation for cataract, having had one removed from each eye. There is a prevalent opinion that cataract can not be removed until it reaches a certain stage, requiring for its development from two to ten years; but the case of Mr. Dodd proves that cataract may be removed at any stage.
NEW DRIFTWOOD/ Fred Slybaum is having lumber sawed to build a took shed.
NEW DRIFTWOOD/ Miss Lisetta Alberring was the guest of Miss Louisa Hoevener Sunday.

NEW DRIFTWOOD/ Miss Katie Quinn is staying with her sister at Seymour.
NEW DRIFTWOOD/ Mrs. Wayman of near Cortland is here visiting her daughter Mrs. Fred Neihous.
NEW DRIFTWOOD/ Mrs. Wagner died at her home near here last Friday afternoon. She was sick about five weeks. She was a member of the Catholic Church. Her husband died about three years ago. She leaves eight children. The funeral was held Monday morning at 9 o'clock.
