County Native Dies in Action

Pfc. Eathel Fish, Ex-Norman Resident, Killed on Wakde I.

Pfc. Eathel I. Fish, age twenty-seven, a native of Norman, Jackson county, was killed in action on Wakde Island in the Pacific area on May 18, according to word received by his wife, Mrs. Jessie Fish, residing at Ninth and I streets in Bedford.

Pfc. Fish was the son of the late Logan and Rosie Fish and was born at Norman on June 14, 1916. He would have observed his twenty-eighth birthday Wednesday.

Pfc. Fish attended Jackson county schools and prior to entering army service on December 23, 1942, was employed as a laborer. He received his basic training at Fort McClellan, Alabama, and later was transferred to Camp Stoneman, California. He sailed for overseas service May 4, 1943 and was stationed since in the Pacific area. He was serving as a member of the 163rd U.S. Infantry at the time of his death. His wife last heard from him in a letter dated May 13.

Besides the widow, he is survived by two sisters, Mrs. Minnie Reuter, Springville; Mrs. Roxie Vilera, Indianapolis, and five brothers, Guy Fish, of Indianapolis; Norman Fish, of Jasonville; Ezra Fred and Everett Fish, all of Norman.
