Body of Pvt. Hawn Arrives In U.S.

The body of Pvt. Roscoe Lloyd Hawn, 22, who lost his life in action, July 10, 1952, was among those of 223 killed in the fighting in Korea, returned to the United States this morning aboard the Loma Victory, according to a Department of Defense announcement. The ship arrived at the San Francisco Port of Embarkation.

Pvt. Hawn was killed on the first day he went into action on the front lines in Korea according to a message received here July 17 by his father and mother, Mr. and Mrs. Willis Hawn, residing on State Raod 39 about one mile south of Tampico.

Pvt. Hawn was the only son of Willis and Nona Rucker Hawn and was born November 3, 1929, near Tampico. He was a member of the Tampico Christian Church and was a farmer before he entered the service October 25, 1951. He trained at Camp Bredkinridge, Kentucky, until he was sent to the Far East in May.

Besides the parents he is survived by a sister, Mrs. Marjorie Eajjalleh, of Chicago.

No word has been received as to when the body will arrive here. Funeral arrangements will be announced later.

Last rites for Pvt. Roscoe Loyd Hawn, 22, Crothersville R1, who was killed in action on his first day at the front lines in Korea, will be conducted at 2 o'clock Saturday afternoon from the Tampico Christian Church with the Rev. Leslie Sparks in charge. Burial in the Russell's Chapel Cemetery. Brownstown posts of the American Legion and the Veterans of Foreign Wars will conduct military rites. The body, recently returned from Korea, arrived in Seymour today. Friends may call at the Koveneer Funeral Home tonight and at the Hawn residence Thursday night and until the time of the funeral.
