Pvt. John Holmes On Way to Japan

Private John R. S. Holmes, son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Holmes, 423 Indianapolis avenue, who completed his basic training at Camp Tunston, Fort Riley, Kansas, December 1, in the 10th Infantry Division, 87th Regiment, Company L, is now enroute to Japan, his parents have learned. He left from Camp Stoneman, California.

Pvt. Holmes received several medals, one an expert gunman M1 award, during his training.

Pvt. Holmes, a graduate of Shields High School in 1949, was employed with Arvin Industries, Inc., before entering service. His address is: Pvt. John R.S. Holmes, US 55178412, Prov. Co. 1305, PO 613, % postmaster, San Francisco, California.

Rites Monday For Cpl. Holmes

Funeral Services for Cpl. John R.S. Holmes, 22, who was killed in action in Korea April 25, will be conducted from the Voss Mortuary at 2 o'clock Monday afternoon with Dr. A.aA. Cohn, pastor of the First Baptist Church, and the Rev. George L. Florence, pastor of the Central Christian Church offciating.

Local posts of the American Legion and Beterans of Foreign Wars will be in charge of military rites. Burial in Riverview Cemetery.

A native of Seymour, Cpl. Holmems was the son of Charles and Carrie Belle Blauvelt Holmes. He was born July 9, 1930. Mr. and Mrs. Holmes, who live at 425 1/4 Indianapolis Avenue, received word of their son's death April 29.

Cpl. Holmes was graduated from Shields High School in 1949. He was employed as a welder by Arvin Industries, Inc., for two years before entering service.

Followig basic training at Fort Riley, Dansas, Cpl. Holmes was stationed at Camp Stillman, California. He was sent overseas January 5, 1952 and served 10 months in Japan before being sent to Korea in November, 1952. He served in the 15th Regiment, 3rd Infantry.

Cpl. Holmes was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Crusaders Class of the Sunday School. He had been a member of Boy Scout Troop 2. He was highly esteemed by many friends who join relatives in mourning his death.

Surviving besides the parents if one sister, Theora Anne Holmes, at home.
