Cpl. Kriete's Death Was in Line of Duty

Death of Corporal James F. Kriete, son of Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Kriete, of Woodstock, in Czechoslovakia on July 18, occurred in the line of duty, his parents have been informed in a letter received from Major General Edward F. Witsell, acting adjutant general.

Corporal Kriete "had been treated for a disease in which it was necessary to administer penicillin and sulfathiazole and was released apparently cured as he did not return for further treatment", the letter states. At 6 o'clock at night on July 16, he became ill and was admitted to the hospital for treatment for "Edema from sulfa reaction", the letter stated, his death occurring on July 18.

His parents had received a letter from him written after he had been released from the hospital and Cpl. Kriete told them at that time that he had been burned while working with his truck. His parents believe it was for those injuries that penicillin and sulfathiazole were administered.
