Sgt. Kurtz Flown to States Seriously Ill

Word has been received that Sgt. Albert Kurtz has been flown to the United States from Korea and is seriously ill.

Sgt. Kurtz is now in Letterman General Hospital. He was born and reared at Crothersville and is a son of Mrs. L.K. Briner, of Crothersville. He is a brother of Mrs. Lemuel Casey, where he visited last July.

A.J. Kurtz, Ill In Korea, Dies

Warrant Officer Albert J. Kurtz, 46, widely known in Jackson county and a former resident of Crothersville, died early Friday morning at the Letterman General Hospital, San Francisco, California, where he had been flown seriously ill from Korea on November 7.

Warrant Officer Kurtz was the son of Harry J. and Louisa Kurtz and was born February 17, 1906, in Crothersville. He was graduated from Crothersville High School with the class of 1925. He entered service the same year and continued in service until his death. He spent several years of his service in South America adn the Philippine Islands. He had been a captain, a first and second lieutenant before becoming a warrant officer.

He is survived by the widow, Mrs. Utha Kurtz and two sons, Jimmy and Richard, of Santa Cruz, California. Also surviving is his mother, Mrs. Louisa Kurtz Briner, of Crothersville, four sisters; Mrs. Esther Fortenberry, of Houston, Texas; Mrs Pearl Casey, of Crothersville; Mrs. Elizabeth Cunningham. oc Indianapolis and Mrs. Lillian Whiting, of Downey, California, and three brothers, Paul Kurtz, of Henryville; Harrison Kurtz, of Indianapolis and Roland Kurtz, of West Lafayette.

Funeral services will be conducted at Arlington Cemetery, Washington, D.C., where he had recently lived.
