Two Local Soldiers Die In Fighting Overseas

Two local soldiers, both members of infantry divisions, were killed in action on the Western Front, according to word received by their families this morning. They are Private First Class Erven Frank Meyer, age twenty-seven, husband of Mrs. Ruth Meyer, of White Creek, and Sergeant James Edward Tinch, age twenty-four, son of Mr. and Mrs. Max Tinch, 411 Mill street, of this city.

Sgt. Tinch was killed on the Western Front January 19 and Pfc. Meyer was killed in action January 7 in Belgium.

Pfc. Meyer, was born August 21, 1917, in the White Creek vicinity, the son of John and Dina Toburen Meyer, and spent his entire life there. His father died several years ago.

He attended the White Creek school, and prior to his induction into the army, engaged in the carpenter trade. He was married February 4, 1941 to Ruth Woodard, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Woodson Woodard, East Laurel street, who, with her one-year-old daughter, Emmylou, survives.

Went Overseas in August.

Pfc. Meyer, a member of an infantry division of the First Army entered the army in February, 1944. He took his basic training at Fort McClellan, Ala., and Ft. Meade, Maryland. He was sent overseas in August and was in England five days before being sent to France and Luxembourg. In his last letter home, which was received December 21, he said he was in a rest camp in Belgium.

Besides the widow, mother and daughter, he is survived by four brothers and two sisters: Frank Meyer, of this city; Clarence Meyer, of Columbus; Theodore Meyer and Alfred Meyer, botth of White Creek; Mrs. Olga Behrman, northwest of Columbus, and Mrs. Esther Fleetwood, of Bloomington.

Memorial Is Set For Pfc. Meyer

Memorial services for Private First Class Erven Meyer, who was killed in action January 7, in Belgium, will be conducted Sunday afternoon, February 18, at 2 o'clock from the White Creek Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Randolph Mueller, pastor, in charge.

Special music will be furnished by the school children adn Dorothy Tiemeyer will sing "Jesus, Savior, Pilot Me" as a solo.

Pfc. Meyer, husband of Mrs. Ruth Meyer, had served for the past year with an infantryt division of the First Army on the Western Front.
