CPL. EARL SWEANY

Corporal Albert Earl "Chub" Sweany, of Crothersville, was killed September 14, 1944, during an invasion in the Pacific theater of war, where he had served with the U. S. Marine Corps. since October. 1942. He had served in China, Australia, New Guinea, New Britain, New Caledonia and Guadalcanal.

A graduate of Crothersville High School with the class of 1937, Cpl. Sweany received a letter sweater for his participation in basketball and was awarded a gift for sportsmanship by the Lions' Club at graduation. He was a member of the Christian Church at Crothersville, and the Knights of Pythias Lodge. He was employed by the American Can Cormpany in Austin, prior to entering the service, January 6, 1942. He received training at Parris Island, Camp Elliott, California., and San Francisco.

Cpl. Sweany was the son of Charles William Sweany and the late Zella Derringer Sweany. The father, stepmother, two sisters and three brothers survive.
