Pfc. W.A. Tidd Killed on Luzon, Wire Confirms

Pfc. Winfred Arnold Tidd, who would have observed his twenty-first birthday on May 31, was killed on Luzon Island in the South Pacific on March 9, according to an official wire from the war department which was received Sunday by his widow, Mrs. Aline E. Tidd, who is with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence Nowling, 323 Highlawn Avenue.

The telegram confirmed word received by the family a week ago in a letter written to Mrs. Tidd March 28 by Sgt. Joseph Inosha, his buddy from New York, who had enclosed a photo of Mrs. Tidd which the local soldier had asked him to keep for him while he was in combat, adding "I'm deeply sorry about what happened to Arnold."

Memorial services are being arranged for next Sunday, April 22, at the Church of the Nazarene, with the Reb. Franklin M. Moore, pastor, in charge.

Besides the widow, he is survived by a small daughter, Vickie Arnella, who soon will be two years of age; his father, Charles Tidd of this city; a brother Wilfred, who is serving with the army in the European theater; a half-brother, Herman Tidd, of this city and seven half-sisters; Betty, Shirley Ann, Neva Jean, Veronica, Dixie, Linda Lou and Deanna Kay Tidd, all of Seymour.
