Pfc. Wieneke Dies in Action With Infantry

Son of Mrs. Dorothy Sage Killed in Italy On December 13, Message States

Another Jackson county youth has given his life for his country in World War II on the Italian battle front.

Pfc. Harold M. Wieneke, age twenty-one, of Seymour, was killed in action on the Italian front on December 13, according to a wire received by his mother, Mrs. Dorothy Sage, 110 1/2 South Chestnut street, late Tuesday.

Pfc. Wieneke, who was a well known among younger residents of this city, entered the U.S. Army on March 6, 1943, and after his training here, he went overseas with his infantry outfit last August. In letters he had written to his mother, he gave no location and the wire telling of his death in action was the first definite information that he had been engaged with the army fighting on the Italian front.

Graduate of Shields High.

Born near Seymour on November 16, 1922 Pfc. Wieneke spent his entire life here until he entered the armed forces. He was graduated from Shields High School, and enjoyed sports, playing basketball frequently during his high school career.

News of his death comes as a shock to his many friends as well as to his relatives, who mourn his death.

Besides the mother, his is survived by a brother, Earl Wieneke, of this city, and two sisters, Misses Harriett and Alice Wieneke, both at home. His father, Harry Wieneke, lives in West Palm Beach, Florida.
