Sgt. Woodson Is Killed in Italian Action

Redding Township Youth Second County Soldier to Meet Death in Europe

Word was received today by relatives that Sgt. George M. Woodson, of Redding township, was killed in action on November 4, 1943, in Italy. The official message from the War Department was received by his sister, Mrs. Lucille Reichenba, of this city.

Sgt. Woodson was Jackson county's second soldier to die as a result of action on the European front in Italy in World War II. Pvt. Ralph Steinkamp, of Brownstown, died of wounds on November 3, also in Italy.

Attended Conologue School.

Sgt. Woodson was the son of the late Mr. and Mrs. Louis Woodson and attended grade school at Conologue in Redding township northeast of the city. He spent all of his life in Redding township until he entered the service in October, 1941. Most of his training was received at Camp Wheeler, Ga.

Sgt. Woodson had been overseas since March, 1942.

Besides the sister, Mrs. Reichenba, Sgt. Woodson is survived by another sister, Mrs Mae Wheeler and one nephew, George Larry Wheeler; two aunts, Mrs. Emma Miller, Mrs. Cora Jaynes; two uncles, Ambrose Woodson, of Seymour and John Bias, of Indianapolis. Besides the relatives a host of friends mourn his death.
