Anita M. (Brand) Akers 1911 - 2009 Anita M. Akers, 97, Seymour, passed away at 6 p.m. Saturday, March 7, 2009, at Lutheran Community Home in Seymour. Mrs. Akers was born March 11, 1911, in Seymour, the daughter of Wilber E. and Alma L. Grelle Brand. She was a 1929 graduate of Shields High School and Indiana Business College. She married Cecil Akers on Feb. 7, 1937. He passed away in January 1975. They moved to Fort Wayne after they married. She was a homemaker and also worked for several years as a secretary for a law office. They moved back to Seymour in 1974. Mrs. Akers was an active member of Redeemer Lutheran Church in Seymour, its Missionary Society and Lutheran Child and Family Services Auxiliary Community Concert Association. She volunteered for many years for the Lutheran Community Home Auxiliary, Meals on Wheels and Provisions Inc. Mrs. Akers is survived by two daughters, Carol (Norbert) Knispel, Parish, Fla., and Jean (Bill) McMurray, Shelbyville, Ky.; grandchildren, Scott Knispel, Kurt Knispel, Wendy Gilliard, Rod McMurray and Tim McMurray; and great-grandchildren, Chase and Keaton McMurray and Brittany, Zoey, Victoria and Gabriel McMurray. Mrs. Akers was preceded in death by her parents; husband; and sister, Helen Hornburg. Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Redeemer Lutheran Church, Seymour, with the Rev. Andrew Currao and the Rev. Daniel Lepley officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the church. Burial will take place at Cliff Hill Cemetery in Versailles after the service. Memorial contributions may be made to Redeemer Lutheran Church or to the donor's choice. Arrangements are being handled by Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour.
