Seymour Tribune - October 9, 2009 Hershel C. Akers (1946 - 2009) Hershel C. Akers, 63, Rising Sun, passed away at 6:35 a.m. Thursday, Oct. 8, 2009, at his home with his family by his side. Mr. Akers was a native of Jennings County and moved to the Milan area when he was 25 years old. He worked for the military at Jefferson Proving Ground and retired from the civilian U.S. Army in 1987. He also worked for Batesville Casket Co. He loved to garden, deer hunt, fish and mushroom hunt. Born July 6, 1946, in Jennings County, he was the son of Edgar and Ellen Dewey Taylor Akers. He married Mary McIntosh Akers, who passed away July 5, 2004. Survivors include a son and his wife, Robert "Robby" and Melissa Akers of Rising Sun; two daughters, Lisa Ferhman of Indianapolis and Teresa Nordstrom of East Enterprise; six grandchildren, Zachary Hershel Akers of Rising Sun, Jenifer Morris of Dearborn County, Jason Morris of Dearborn County, Megan Nordstrom of East Enterprise and Jordan Ferhman of Indianapolis; four siblings and their spouses, Frances (Dewey) Crowe of Lexington, Ky., David Akers of Tennessee, Margaret (Shannon) Lamb of Tennessee and Peggy (Donald) Large of Tennessee. He was preceded in death by three siblings, James Akers, Virginia A. Dunaway and Gordon Akers. Pastor Ernest Lamb will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Sunday at Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville, with burial to follow at Cana Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday and after noon Sunday at the funeral home.
