Brownstown Banner William A. Atkins April 26, 2006 William A. Atkins, 82, of Seymour, died Wednesday, April 26, 2006, at Methodist Hospital in Indianapolis. He served in the US Army and was a veteran of World War II. He was a retired electrical lineman and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers (IBEW). He was born July 9, 1923, at Medora, a son of the late Albert and Bertha Shields Atkins. On Nov. 20, 1948, he married Helen Kilburn Jewell Atkins in Seymour, and she survives. Also surviving are step-children, Doris Goodin, Donald Jewell, William Jewell and Judy Jewell; a sister, Carrie Gwaltney; 14 grandchildren, and 15 great-grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by two brothers, Marvin and Robert; and one sister, Alma. Funeral services were conducted Saturday, April 29, at Voss Chapel, Seymour, with Rev. Steven Gwaltney officiating. Burial was at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7 all of Seymour. Memorials may be given to the Indiana Veterans' Home.
