Seymour Tribune - February 04, 2005 Melvin C. Ballard Nov. 6, 1927 – Jan. 31, 2005 Melvin C. Ballard, 77, Danville, died Monday, Jan. 31, 2005, at his residence. Mr. Ballard was a truck driver for several companies, and worked for 25 years at Spector Motor Service. He retired from that company in 1978. He was a member of Teamsters Local 135, Danville American Legion Post 118 and Westside Church of the Nazarene. He was a graduate of Charlton High School and was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II. Born Nov. 6, 1927, at Seymour, he was a son of Henry A. Ballard Sr. and Myrtle L. Jaynes Ballard. He married Violet M. Long, who preceded him in death. He married Opal Roe Trissel on Jan. 30, 1999, and she survives. He is survived by five children, Cheryl A. Chastain, Melvin C. Ballard II, Garrick A. Ballard, Nancy K. Droege and R. Andrew Ballard; three step-children, Paul Trissel, Phyllis Huffman and Elizabeth Trissel; two brothers, William A. Ballard, Seymour, and Henry A. Ballard Jr.; a sister, Cora J. Holt; nine grandchildren; 10 step-grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were to be conducted at 1 p.m. today at Baker Funeral Home, Danville, with burial at Fairview Cemetery, North Salem.
