Seymour Daily Tribune August 14, 2007 Donald Lee Banister Aug. 7, 1933 – Aug. 13, 2007 Donald Lee “Banny” Banister, 74, Jennings County, passed away at 4:37 a.m. Monday, Aug. 13, 2007, at Lutheran Community Home, Seymour. Mr. Banister was a member of First Church of the Nazarene. At one time he was a Sunday school teacher and sang in the adult choir. In his later years he was a member of Friendship Sunday School Class. He served in the Army — 3rd Armored Division 81st Millimeter Mortar Platoon in 1956-57 in Fort Knox, Ky., and in Germany. He worked at Arvin Industries in Columbus before going to Cummins Engine Co. for 30 years, where he retired. Born Aug. 7, 1933, in Reddington, he was a son of Ora and Sarah Emily Banister Branaman, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 26, 1955, he married Twila M. Robison, who preceded in death Dec. 11, 2005. On Aug. 28, 2001, he married Virginia Martin Bell, who survives. Other survivors include his daughters, Debra (Michael) Vaughn and Beth (Virgil) Bennett, both of Indianapolis; son, Randall (Vickie) Banister, Seymour; grandchildren, Amy Penoyer, Holly Penoyer, Chad (Angie) Dixon, Ethan Banister and Craig Banister; great-granddaughter; Lorelai Dixon; stepchildren, Debra (Dennis) Christian and Greg and Randy Bell; several stepgrandchildren and stepgreat-grandchildren; sisters, Ruth (Marvin) Maynard, Seymour, and Pauline (John) Schmitz, Indianapolis, uncle, John Emily; and aunt, Florence Banister. He was preceded in death by his brothers, Maurice and Herbert Banister, and two nephews, Melvin Maynard and Kevin Banister. The Rev. Steve Barrett and the Rev. Rick Wilson will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Hayden Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans and Korean and Vietnam Veterans. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Nazarene Church, Lutheran Community Home or Don and Dana Myers Cancer Center.
