November 13, 2007 - 12:03PM Wayne Edward Bannister April 19, 1931 – Nov. 10, 2007 Wayne Edward Bannister, 76, Scipio, died at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 10, 2007, at Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility in Columbus. Mr. Bannister was a 1949 graduate of Hayden High School and a 1961 graduate of Barber College in Louisville. He retired in 1996 as an attendant at Muscatatuck State Developmental Center, where he worked for six years. He also had worked as a security guard at Vernco in Columbus, was a house manager at Rose Acres in Jackson County, had been a barber in North Vernon and was a farmer. He was a member of Oak Grove Presbyterian Church near Scipio and attended Scipio Presbyterian Church. He enjoyed his dog, Scout, mowing the yard, birdwatching and watching sports. Born April 19, 1931, in Greenfield, he was the son of Edward G. and Ethel F. Kehrt Bannister, both of whom preceded him in death. He married Alberta Reece on July 1, 1951, in North Vernon, and she survives. Other survivors include four sons, Steve (Joyce) Bannister, Scipio, David Bannister and Gary (Robin Green) Bannister, both of North Vernon and Mark (Sheila) Bannister, Carmel; a brother, Delbert Bannister, Scipio; a sister, Pauline Shields, North Vernon; six grandchildren, Brian (Kris) Bannister, Scipio, Michael (Brenda) Bannister and Tyler (Nichole) Bannister, both of North Vernon, and Jared Bannister, Noah Bannister and Joshua Bannister, all of Carmel; and four great-grandchildren, Jacob Bannister and Logan Bannister, both of Scipio, and Brooklyn Bannister and Breeanna Bannister, both of North Vernon. The Rev. Mitch Coggin will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Thursday, at Scipio Presbyterian Church. Burial will take place at Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon and from 10 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the church. Memorials may be given to Scipio Presbyterian Church or Hospice of South Central Indiana Inpatient Facility.
