Seymour Daily Tribune James Arthur Belding Sept. 25, 1928 – June 22, 2006 James Arthur Belding, 77, Columbus, died at 11:17 a.m. Thursday, June 22, 2006, in Columbus. The retired marketing director at Force Construction and Design, Mr. Belding worked in the building and construction field most of his life. He was a graduate of Shields High School in Seymour and the Indiana University School of Business. He was a member of St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church. He was an active member of Knights of Columbus, serving as president of the Columbian Corporation, and he directed the planning and construction of the Council 1414 building in Columbus. He also was involved with the Columbus Redevelopment Commission and the Elks Club, and he was a volunteer with the American Heart Association and the Jaycees. He was honored as the Veteran of the Day at the Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World, Fla., on Dec. 14, 2003. He served in the U.S. Army attached to the Air Force in Seoul, Korea, in 1952-53 and served in the U.S. Army Reserves until 1960. He was devoted to his family and liked nothing better than spending time with family and friends. Born Sept. 25, 1928, in Findlay, Ohio, he was a son of Nelson Oliver and Irene Vogel Belding, both of whom preceded him in death. On Feb. 9, 1952, in St. Ambrose Church, Seymour, he married Joan Marling, who survives at Columbus. Other survivors include five sons, Mark (Mary) Belding, Champaign, Ill., Brian (Donna), Bloomington, T. Matthew (Karin), Missouri City, Texas, and Christopher and Samual, both of Columbus; six grandchildren, Kathryn, Benjamin, Ashlyn, Alexander, James Riley and Ethan; and a sister, Wilma Jean (Maurice) Wright, Greenwood. He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Belding, and two sisters, Elizabeth “Peggy” (Leonard) Rubens and Marge (Norvel) Montgomery. A Mass of Christian burial will take place at 11 a.m. Monday at St. Bartholomew Roman Catholic Church. Burial will take place at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, with a military graveside service conducted by the Jackson County Veterans Color Guard. Friends may call from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday at Jewell-Rittman Family Funeral Home, Columbus, and from 10 a.m. until time of service Monday at the church. A rosary service will be conducted at 5 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be given to St. Bartholomew School or Hospice of South Central Indiana.
