Lucy D. Taskey Bell, 84, died Thursday, Oct. 5, 2006, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour.
Mrs. Bell was a member of Cortland Christian Church, Ogilville Fun and Fellowship and 107 Senior Citizens Club, in which she formerly played in the Senior Center Band. She worked at Grote Manufacturing for 10 years, retired from H.O. Canfield in 1977 after several years of service and worked at several other area factories. She was a breast cancer survivor for 43 years. She loved to make quilt tops using her treadle sewing machine and loved to garden.
Born Feb. 28, 1922, in Medora, she was a daughter of John Sylvester and Pearl Evelyn Trueblood Darkis, both of whom preceded her in death. On Jan. 30, 1942, she married Fred W. Taskey, who died May 19, 1990. On Jan. 20, 2002, in Cortland, she married Carl Bell Jr., who survives.
Other survivors include a son, Kenneth R. (Carol) Taskey, Seymour; a daughter, Wilma L. (Bill) Johnson, Ogilville; a stepson, David Bell, North Vernon; five grandchildren, Brenda (Mike) Simmons, North Vernon, Darrin Taskey, Brandenburg, Ky., Melody (David) Smith, Scottsburg, Terasa (Troy) Martin, Vallonia, and Richard (Natalie) Trowbridge, Columbus; 10 stepgrandchildren; four great-grandchildren, James Simmons and Rachel Taskey, both of North Vernon, and Eli Martin and Olivia Martin, both of Vallonia; 20 stepgreat-grandchildren; and nine stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers, John Darkis and Leo Darkis; two half brothers, Oscar Wayman and Howard Wayman; two sisters, Cora Watts and Lillian Bowden; two stepsons, Carl Taskey and Robert Taskey; and a stepgrandson, David Taskey.
The Rev. Clifford Burton and the Rev. Bill Weaver will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Cortland Cemetery.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday and from noon until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
Memorials may be given to Hospice of Schneck Medical Center or the donor's choice.
