Seymour Tribune - June 2, 2009 Mary Elizabeth (Toenjes) Benitz 1924 - 2009 Mary Elizabeth Toenjes Benitz passed away, Thursday, May 28, 2009. Mrs. Benitz was a member of Hope Lutheran Church for many years. They became members of Christ Memorial Lutheran Church after they moved to Affton. She was a square dancer with the Merry Mixers Square Dance Club. She worked at Hampton Bank and later for the federal government, from which she retired. They moved to Meramec Bluffs LSS in September 2003. She was an avid bridge player and was also involved in numerous activities there. She valued her family and the many friendships she made. Her loving heart and giving ways will forever be remembered. She will truly be missed by her family and friends. She attended Immanuel Lutheran School and was a 1942 Seymour High School graduate. Born Oct. 19, 1924, she was the daughter of John and Lillian Toenjes, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Clarence Wilbur Benitz, who preceded her in death. Survivors include children, Wayne Allen (Vonnie) Benitz, James Martin (Diane) Benitz and Marie Elizabeth (William) Long; six grandchildren, Randall Jeffrey (Elizabeth) Walker, Stephen Mark (Shelby) Benitz, James Michael (Angela) Benitz, Julia Elizabeth Bourdreau, David William Long and Megan Elizabeth (John) Dallman; two great-grandchildren, Emily Marie Benitz and Brayden James Benitz; brother, John Toenjes; sisters, Dorothy Pottschmidt and Esther (Jon) Dechow; and nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her brothers, Melvin, Marvin and Richard Toenjes; a brother-in-law, Henry Pottschmidt; and sisters-in-law, Alice Toenjes and Mildred Toenjes. Funeral services were held Monday at Meramec Bluffs Senior Living Community, with interment at National Cemetery.
