Delbert E. Bishop

Delbert E. Bishop, 84, died Saturday, Sept. 30, 2006, at Providence Retirement Home, New Albany.
Mr. Bishop was a native of Seymour. He was an Air Force veteran of World War II and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was shot down over France in May of 1944 and spent a year in a German prisoner of war camp. He retired from Public Service Indiana (Cinergy) as foreman of the meter shop after 44 years of service. He was a skilled carpenter and electrician who enjoyed using his skills to work on his home and help others. In retirement, he and his wife enjoyed church, golf, family, home and many friends. He was a charter member of Grace Lutheran Church and gave freely of his time and talents over the years. He was an usher for more than 50 years.
Mr. Bishop was a son of Edna Peters Bishop and Edward William Bishop. He married Lois Knoke Bishop of Seymour, who preceded him in death after 59 years of marriage.
Survivors include three sons, Mark E. (Cindy) Bishop, Matt D. (Barbara) Bishop and Tom J. (Laura) Bishop, and a daughter, Cherie (Nick) Scott, all of New Albany; five granddaughters, Amanda Lynn (Cory) Parr, Huntsville, Ala., Candice Noel Bishop, Sellersburg, Ashley Lynn Bishop, Huntsville, Ala., and Laura Beth Bishop and Amy Lynn Bishop, both of New Albany; and two great-grandsons, Preston and Jacob Parr, Huntsville, Ala.
Services will be conducted at noon Wednesday at Burkholder Funeral Home, Seymour. Burial will take place at Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery, Seymour.
Friends may call from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Kraft Funeral Service, 2776 Charlestown Road, New Albany and from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at Burkholder funeral Home, Seymour.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be given to Grace Lutheran Church or Hospice of Southern Indiana
