G. Donn Bishop

G. Donn Bishop, 78, Brownstown, died at 11:45 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2002, at his home after being ill for one month.
Mr. Bishop served in the U.S. Army from 1942 to 1945. He was owner-broker of Century 21 Donn Bishop Real Estate in Seymour and Scottsburg. He was a member of the National Board of Realtors; Jackson County Board of Realtors, (past president); Greater Seymour Chamber of Commerce; First United Methodist Church in Seymour, where he was a longtime Sunday school teacher; Indiana University Alumni Association; Seymour Elks Lodge; and Shadowood Golf Course. He was a past member and president of Seymour Rotary. In 1999 he was honored as Seymour’s Citizen of the year at the chamber’s annual dinner.
Following his discharge from the Army in 1945, he returned to Indiana University, where he received his master’s degree in business administration. He was a member of the Board of Aeons and Blue Key Honorary while at Indiana. He had been a resident of Jackson County since 1952, when he owned the B&W Shoe Store. During the 1960s he was vice president of Herff Jones in Indianapolis. In 1972 he became a Realtor in Seymour, and since 1976 he had owned Century 21 Donn Bishop Real Estate. His office has received many national awards over the past 27 years.
Born May 3, 1923, in Mellott, he was a son of George and Lena Smith Bishop. On July 11, 1975, in Seymour, he married Nancy S. Hemmer, who survives.
Other survivors include five children, Terrye (Mark) Davidson and Tom Hemmer, both of Seymour, Becki (Gene)Thompson, Cortland, Scott Bishop, Pensacola, Fla., and Julia Hemmer (Dennis) Rhyne, Indianapolis, and grandchildren, Nate and Ann Tormoehlen, Richmond, Va., Trent Tormoehlen, Seymour, Clint Davidson, Columbus, Ohio, Libby Davidson, Charleston, S.C., Alison Thompson, Matthew Thompson and Ellen Thompson, all of Cortland, and Sarah Rhyne, Indianapolis.
He was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Bishop Mahan.
The Rev. Neal Partain will conduct services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Voss and Sons Funeral Service, Voss Chapel, Seymour.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 10 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Community Foundation of Jackson County or First United Methodist Church.
