Seymour Daily Tribune Donald Black June 15, 1925 – June 7, 2006 Donald Black, 80, Seymour, died Wednesday, June 7, 2006, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour, surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Black was a loving father and grandfather. He loved to hunt, fish, go to gospel sings and ride his bike. He was a World War II U.S. Navy veteran serving as a first class seaman and he was a member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars. Born June 15, 1925, in Seymour, he was a son of Benjamin and Minnie Tidd Black, both of whom preceded him in death. On Jan. 19, 1948, in North Vernon, he married Clarice M. Ferguson, who died June 18, 1995. Survivors include four children, Roger (Rita) Jaynes, Franklin, Donald D. (Sharon) Black and Linda (Gary) Sewell, both of Seymour, and Dennie (Elvira) Black, Crothersville; 13 grandchildren, Kevin Jaynes, Debbie Wallace, Teresa Jaynes, Lisa Miller, Kimberly Day, Jason Black, Jarrod (Jenny) Black, Kelly Black, Scott (Angie) Black, James (Charlotte) Black, Cindy (Dale) Dewar, Gary (Cathy) Sewell Jr. and Marcus Sewell; five stepgrandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; 16 stepgreat-grandchildren; a great-great-grandchild; and a sister, Dolly Gambrel, Tampico. He was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters. Brother Larry Robbins will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at Riverview Cemetery. Full military graveside rites will be conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday and from noon until time of service Monday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to the Jackson County Humane Society, American Cancer Society or American Heart Association.
