Seymour Daily Tribune Burl Wayne Blackwell May 2, 1927 – June 28, 2006 Burl Wayne Blackwell, 79, Bedford, died at 9:21 p.m. Wednesday, June 28, 2006, at Bloomington Hospital. Mr. Blackwell retired from Central Foundry in 1978. He was a member of the Hillcrest Christian Church, United Auto Workers Local 440 and a veteran of the United States Army Air Corps, serving during World War II. Born May 2, 1927, in Lawrence County, he was a son of William and Ethel (Henderson) Blackwell, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 18, 1945, he married Geraldine King, who survives. Other survivors include two sons, John (Cathy) Blackwell, Springville, James (Judith) Blackwell, Bedford; one daughter, Nancy (Stanley) Griffith, Bloomington; a sister, Lola Mae Davers, Brownstown; five grandchildren, Julie (Mike) England, Springville, Thomas (Brooke) Blackwell, Mitchell, James T. Blackwell, Smithville, Robert Wayne (Amanda) Blackwell, Derek Adam Blackwell, all of Bedford; five great-grandchildren, Jessi England, Conner Blackwell, Daulton, Devin and Dayson Blackwell; five step-grandchildren, Robin (Steve) Bradford, Fishers, Anthony Griffith and girlfriend Jennifer Hughes, Indianapolis, Tracy, Tony and Travis Harrison, all of Bedford; and six step-great-grandchildren, Dakota, Dayton, Zack, Zane, Zayden and Tyler Harrison. He was preceded in death by three brothers, Morris, Norman and Oscar Blackwell; four sisters, Mabel Samuelson, Lillian Parmalee, Jean Meeker, Lois Mower; a half-sister, Marie Blackwell and a half-brother, Garland Applegate. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Elmwood Chapel, of Day & Carter Mortuary. Burial will take place at Cresthaven Memory Gardens. Military rites will be conducted at the graveside by members of Gillen Post 33 American Legion. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home.
