Jackson County Banner Brownstown, Indiana Thursday, September 14, 1871 Page 5 Death of an Old Citizen John Bland, an old and universally esteemed citizen of this county, died at the residence of his son-in-law, Joseph England, in this place, on Thursday night last, at the age of 70 years. He was an honest man and good citizen, and although he had reached man's allotted time of three-score and ten years, yet his death will be none the less deeply regretted on that account. Mr. Bland was born in North Carolina in 1801, and settled in Jackson county in 1820, since which time he has resided in the immediate vicinity of Brownstown. About 18 months ago, his wife preceded him to the haven of rest beyond the skies. He is the father of twelve children, eleven of whom are living and married, and ten out of the eleven residing in this vicinity. The eleventh, John K. Bland, resided here also until last spring, when he removed to Kansas.
