Jackson County Banner Brownstown, Indiana Thursday, May 18, 1882 Page 5 Killed by a Train On Saturday afternoon, John Blankenship spent most of the afternoon and evening in town drinking. At a late hour he started down the railroad to his home at Farmington. When arriving at the county crossing, one mile out, a north-bound freight came thundering along and the engineer, when within a few steps of him, saw him lying down with his body on the outside, and his head inside the rail but was unable to stop the train, and the pilot struck him. The train was stopped and a coronial examination was made, when his neck was found to be broken, his breast crushed, and his right jaw terribly lacerated. Deceased was 33 years of age. He was a son of Rev. E. T. Blankenship, deceased. He leaves a wife and three children in destitute circumstances.
