Seymour Daily Tribune February 4, 2002 Astor Bowling Astor Bowling, 69, Dupont, died Thursday, Jan. 31, 2002, at Veterans Hospital in Louisville after a brief illness. Mr. Bowling worked for Blue Diamond Coal Mine in Kentucky for 20 years, retiring in 1982. He was a U.S. Army veteran. Born June 13, 1932, at Cornettsville, Ky., he was a son of Shafter Bowling and Katie Bowling Smith. On Aug. 25, 1956, in Blackey, Ky., he married Cledoth Gilliam, who survives in Dupont. Other survivors include a son, John Bowling, Dupont; two daughters, Lisa Mulliken, North Vernon, and Lezlie Thompson, Dupont; six brothers, Lloyd Smith, Cornettsville, Ky., William P. Smith, Indianapolis, David Smith, Cumberland, Ky., Noah Smith, Slemp, Ky., Woodard Bowling, Vallonia, and Luther Bowling, Indiana; three sisters, Thelma Jean Eldridge, Cumberland, Ky., Christeen Pratt, Cornettsville, Ky., and Connie Bowling, Brownstown; and four grandchildren, Haley Mulliken, North Vernon, and Kaitlyn Thompson, Jonathan Astor Bowling and Preston Bowling, all of Dupont. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Carlos and Tom Smith; a sister, Beatrice; and his stepfather, Lige Smith. The Rev. Bobby Eldridge will conduct services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home in North Vernon. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
