Seymour Daily Tribune Vernon J. Brooks October 26, 2006 Vernon J. "Bud" Brooks, 79, Butlerville, died at 3:45 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 25, 2006, at St. Vincent Hospital, Indianapolis. Mr. Brooks was a 1945 graduate of Butlerville High School and a veteran of the U.S. Army. He was employed at Cummins Engine Co. in Columbus for 32 years, retiring in 1983 from the test line and heat treat. He was a member of Graham Baptist Church in San Jacinto, the Diesel Workers Union, Coffee Creek Conservation Club and Brush Creek Conservation Club, and a former member of the National Rifle Association. He donated the ground for the new section of Graham Baptist Cemetery and served on the board of directors for the cemetery. He enjoyed target shooting, fishing and playing cards. Born April 4, 1927, in Jefferson County, he was a son of Vernon A. and Zenith Fall Brooks, both of whom preceded him in death. On Sept. 9, 1948, in Graham Baptist Church, he married Dorothy Koelmel, who survives. Other survivors include three sons, Jack Brooks, North Vernon, and James and Don Brooks, both of Butlerville; two daughters, Norma Pressler, Fort Wayne, and Mary Jo Brooks, Scottsburg; a brother, Richard Brooks, North Vernon; a sister, Lula Mae Rucker, Hope; eight grandchildren, Chris and Joshua Joe Brooks and Pam Stuckwisch, all of North Vernon, Jimmy Brooks, Columbus, Dawn Cohee and Jeremiah Brooks, both of Butlerville, Michelle McKinney, Indianapolis, and Brian Pressler, Mattoon, Ill; and nine great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Mary Wood, and two infant brothers. The Rev. Marvin Wright will conduct funeral services at 3 p.m. Saturday at Dove-Sharp & Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon. Burial will take place at Graham Baptist Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to Graham Baptist Cemetery or Brush Creek Conservation Club.
