Seymour Tribune - September 24, 2009 Gary L. Burke 1942 - 2009 Gary L. Burke, 67, Seymour, passed away at 3:03 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 22, 2009, at his home surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Burke retired after 38 years of service from Rockwell Automation in Columbus, and was recently employed at Oak Knoll Golf Course in Columbus. He served in the U.S. Navy from 1959 to 1963 on the USS Truckee. He was a member of American Legion Post 89, Seymour Elks Club, Seymour Country Club and a life member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925. He was a co-founder and member of the Hoosier Hill Toppers Motorcycle Club. Born March 29, 1942, in Seymour, he was the son of Francis Burke and Jewell Wineinger Montgomery Burke, both of whom preceded him in death. On Nov. 25, 1964, in Seymour, he married Phyllis V. Trapp Burke, who survives. He is survived by his wife of 45 years; daughter, Kathy (David) Brummett; son, Kevin (Vanessa) Burke; grandchildren, Chad (Adrienne) Brummett and Chris (Shelie) Brummett; great-grandchildren, Morganne, Luke, Maxwell and Blythe Brummett; a sister, Brenda (Gordon) Pifer; and a sister-in-law, Glenda Burke. He was preceded in death by brothers, Larry Dennis, Danny Richard and Steven Michael Burke. The Rev. Mike Seany will conduct funeral services at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery with full military graveside rites conducted by VFW Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and from 12:30 p.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
