The Republic Columbus, Indiana October 28, 1904 Friday Page 1 DEATH OF S. E. CARTER AUTHOR OF JIM MOWRY DIED AT HIS HOME IN SEYMOUR JUST AFTER NOON MONDAY. Sanford Everett Carter died at 12:10 o'clock p.m., Thursday, October 27, 1904, aged fifty years, two months and three days. Mr. Carter was born in Driftwood township, August 24, 1854, his parents being Peter L. and Sarah Elizabeth Carter. He was married April 25, 1877, to Miss Julia Parsley, of Columbus, Ind. Besides his wife he leaves six children, Mrs. Fred Crooks, of Cleveland, Ohio; Everett, Lizzie, Edwin, Fred and Catherine, all of whom were present at the time of his death. He leaves one brother, George D. Carter, of East Las Vegas, New Mexico. Mr. Carter was a man of strong intellect and of a genial and pleasant disposition. He took much interest in politics and at one time he was republican chairman of the old third congressional district. He was always interested in local, state and national affairs and had a wide acquaintance through the state. He was at one time connected with the Seymour National bank and was well versed in the banking business.
