Seymour Tribune - December 2008 E. Ray Clark 1920 - 2008 E. Ray Clark, 88, Seymour, passed away at 8:06 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. He was a member of Peter's Switch Church of the Nazarene and attended Cortland Christian Church and Seymour Christian Church. Ray went to Rockford Elementary and Shields High School. He was a truck driver, retired car salesman and self-employed maintenance man. He served his country during World War II in the United States Army as a corporal for the 59th Coast Artillery Regiment. He was a prisoner of war for three and a half years and received several decorations and awards, including the Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Distinguished Units American Defense Bronze Star, Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with Bronze Star and Philippine Defense Ribbon with Bronze Star. Born Jan. 18, 1920, in Jackson County, he was the son of Amel and Mabel Greer Clark, both of whom preceded him in death. On June 18, 1950, in Cortland Christian Church, he married Elizabeth Ellen Ray Clark, who survives. Other survivors include his children, Steven (Janet) Clark, William (Linda) Clark, Debra Clark and Phillip Gordon Clark; six grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; five brothers, Robert (Rose) Clark, Donald (Marilyn) Clark, Dale (Ann) Clark, Francis Clark and Harold (Pat) Clark; and two sisters, Edith Pfaffenberger and Dottie (John) Burkhart. He was preceded in death by two brothers, Oliver and James Clark, and two sisters, Ruth Bauer and Evelyn Clark. The Rev. Bill Weaver will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Voss Chapel, Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. Burial will be at Riverview Cemetery, Seymour, with a Voss dove release following. A full military graveside service will be conducted by Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans and Korean and Vietnam Veterans, all of Seymour. Memorials may be made to Peter's Switch Church of the Nazarene, Seymour Christian Church, Cortland Christian Church, American Legion Post 89 or donor's choice.
