Seymour Tribune Donald E. Cockerham 1930 - 2009 Donald E. Cockerham, 78, Seymour, passed away at 2:35 a.m. Friday, Jan. 30, 2009, at Covered Bridge Health Campus, Seymour, after an illness of five years. Mr. Cockerham was a member of Vallonia Christian Church. He was a self-employed carpenter, plumber and electrician. He was a U.S. Army veteran and served in the Korean War. He was a lifelong resident of Jackson County. Donald raced stock cars during his lifetime and enjoyed watching NASCAR. Born June 21, 1930, in Brownstown, he was the son of Isaac and Dessie Baughman Cockerham, both of whom preceded him in death. On March 2, 1993, in Brownstown, he married Frances Farmer Cockerham, who survives. Other survivors include children, Risa Jean Mifflin, Columbus, Steve Cockerham, Brownstown, and Mike Cockerham and Dale Cockerham, both of Seymour; step daughters, Wanda Shutters, Brenda Beckett and Karen Woolfe, all of Seymour; sisters, Ruby Wilson, Norman, and Ruth Ann Hutton, Brownstown; eight grandchildren; four stepgrandchildren and four great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a son, Thomas Cockerham, and brother, William Cockerham. The Rev. Chris Criminger will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Sunday at Johnson Funeral Home, Vallonia. Burial will take place at Vallonia Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m. today and from noon until time of service Sunday at the funeral home.
