Nina May Forgey Conner

Mrs. William M. Conner, formerly of Seymour, died quietly on Nov. 12, 2006, at the home of her beloved daughter, Dr. Cathy Ann (Conner) Snyder, in Greenwood.
Mrs. Conner was the former Nina May Forgey. She was born, at home, in Jackson County (Freetown) on April 2, 1917, to Cline Wallace Forgey and Mary Ethel Forgey. She, her older brother, Homer Forgey, and her older sister, Mildred Forgey, spent their early years in Freetown. When she was about 12, her family moved to Brownstown. She always enjoyed telling the story of how she drove a milk truck and delivered milk to the residents of Brownstown when she was only 13 or 14. It was in Brownstown that she met and fell in love with the man she would marry - William M. Conner. They were wed in 1938 at her parents' home in Brownstown, and together they then spent several years away from Jackson County (in Indianapolis and Chicago) while he obtained his pharmacy degree, then his optometry degree, and then practiced optometry for one year in Indianapolis. She then returned with him to Jackson County when he began his optometry practice in Seymour in 1945.
Mrs. Conner was truly a loving, devoted mother to her children and a loving, devoted wife to her husband. She was renowned as a meticulous housekeeper and was active in church activities at the First Presbyterian churches in Seymour and Brownstown. She volunteered at the Seymour Boys Club for many years and belonged to numerous service organizations in the area and was particularly fond of her membership in the area's Tri Kappa Sorority and of the many close, personal friends she shared that membership with.
Dr. and Mrs. Conner's family grew with arrival of their children - Richard Jon Conner, Joseph W. Conner and Cathy Ann (Conner) Snyder.
Once her children grew older, she began working in her husband's optometry practice and continued that until his retirement in 1984. The two years following his retirement were followed by frequent travel by the couple throughout the United States and Europe. Mrs. Conner's husband, Dr. W.M. Conner, preceded her in death on Sept. 26, 1986.
Mrs. Conner moved to Carmel following her husband's death. Later, she moved to Greenwood to be near her daughter, Cathy. As her health declined, she finally moved into her daughter's home, in 1996. She received loving, caring, constant attention to her needs there by her daughter and son-in-law. Indeed, her son-in-law, Dr. Wayne Snyder, became as close and loving of her, and Mrs. Conner became as close and loving of him, as if they were blood relatives. No mother could have been treated kinder or better served by her daughter and son-in-law than was Mrs. Conner.
Even the numerous dogs at the Snyder household where Mrs. Conner stayed in her later years had a special affection for Mrs. Conner, as frequently one or more of them would spend the day or night in her bedroom, properly sleeping on the couch, but keeping constant vigil over her safety and well-being.
Mrs. Conner was preceded in death by her husband, Dr. William M. Conner, her brother, Homer Forgey, and her sister, Mildred (Forgey) Adolph.
She leaves behind all three of her children, Richard Jon Conner (whose wife is Cheryl), Dr. Joseph W. Conner (whose wife is Lisa) and Dr. Cathy Ann Snyder (whose husband is Wayne) and three grandchildren by her son, Joseph, and his wife. The grandchildren are Katie, Kyle and Kurt Conner, and they were a constant source of pleasure and continuous topic of discussion for Mrs. Conner.
Mrs. Conner lived a long and full life. Her spirit, honor and graciousness will live on in the memory of those that knew her.
Services will be private, and held at the Brownstown Cemetery.
