Seymour Daily Tribune Everett R. Cottingham October 14, 2006 Sept. 8, 1925 - Oct. 12, 2006 Everett R. Cottingham, 81, of Seymour, passed away at 3:55 p.m. Thursday, October 12th, 2006 at Hampton Oaks Health Center in Scottsburg. He was a DAV Lifetime member, Columbus Chapter 31, VFW of Seymour and a Purple Heart recipient from World War II. He was a member of Uniontown Baptist Church. Mr. Cottingham was born in Benton County on September 8, 1925, the son of the late Adrian and Ethel (Ransom) Cottingham. He was also preceded by a step-mother, Virginia Cottingham. He worked as a machinist at Cummins Engine Co. and retired in 1989. He was the husband of Ruth Jean (Juett) Cottingham. They were married Dec. 2, 1948, in Uniontown by Pastor Walter Mosley. Survivors include a daughter, Cindy (Jeff) Rider of Crothersville; three sons, Ron Cottingham of Crothersville, James (Sandra) Cottingham of Seymour and Robert (Amie) Cottingham of Crothersville; a sister, Jessie Deaton of Crothersville; two brothers, Lawrence Cottingham of Seymour and Eugene Cottingham of Crothersville; and grandchildren: Jeremy Cottingham, Kristy Cottingham, Valerie Rider, Veronica Rider and Bryce Cottingham. He was preceded in death by his parents, his stepmother and one brother, Robert Cottingham. The funeral service will be at Voss Chapel, Seymour, at 2 p.m. Sunday, with the Rev. Bill Ramsey officiating. Burial will be in Uniontown Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home. Friends are also invited to call after 1 p.m. Sunday at Voss Chapel.
