Seymour Daily Tribune Newton E. Day October 19, 2006 Dec. 10, 1903 - Oct. 17, 2006 Newton E. Day, 102, Indianapolis, died Tuesday, Oct. 17, 2006. As a teenager, Mr. Day was a member of the Seymour City Band and the Shields High School Marching Band. He marched in the Armistice Day Parade in Indianapolis in 1918. A graduate of Shields High School, Class of 1921, he attended Butler University and played drums for the university band from 1921 to 1922. He was a retired real estate broker, fisherman and golfer. A member of Wallace Street Presbyterian Church, he also belonged to Centre Masonic Lodge 23, Scottish Rite, Murat Shrine, Moose 17 and the Indianapolis Senior Center. Born Dec. 10, 1903, in Seymour, he was the son of Earl and Alena Charles Day, both of whom preceded him in death. Survivors include two nieces, Dona Cooper, Seymour, and Helen Clark, Brownstown; a nephew, Durbin Day Jr., Richmond, Va.; a caregiver, Nadene Woods, Indianapolis; nine great-nieces and nephews; and 28 great-great-nieces and -nephews. He was preceded in death by two wives, Marguerite Hays in 1975 and Rebecca Willoughby in 1997. He was also was preceded in death by two brothers, Dr. Durbin Day and Robert Day. Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday at Shirley Brothers Washington Memorial Chapel, 9606 E. Washington St., Indianapolis. Burial will follow in Acton Cemetery. Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until time of service Saturday at the funeral home.
