Seymour Daily Tribune March 26, 2002 Bertha J. Deaton Bertha J. Deaton, 93, Commiskey, died at 5:55 a.m. Monday, March 25, 2002, at her home. Mrs. Deaton was a homemaker and was a member of Order of Eastern Star in Austin and Commiskey Baptist Church. She enjoyed quilting and flowers. Born Oct. 16, 1908, in Breathitt County, Ky., she was a daughter of George Johnson and Callie Davidson Johnson. On Jan. 27, 1931, in Buckhorn, Ky., she married Kash Deaton, who died Nov. 6, 1970. Survivors include two sons, Tom Deaton, Winter Haven, Fla., and Bob Deaton, North Vernon; four daughters, Betty Proy, Sandusky, Ohio, Janet Lyons, Seffner, Fla., Judy Gaffney, Deputy, and Kathy Brison, Butlerville; three brothers, Roscoe Johnson, Miamisburg, Ohio, Luther Johnson, Philadelphia, and Segle Johnson, Mount Vernon, Ky.; two sisters, Callie Johnson, Austin, and Marie Johnson, Jackson, Ky.; 21 grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by a son, Charles Deaton, and four brothers, Elube Johnson, Robert Johnson, Roy Johnson and Aster Johnson. The Rev. Bob Proy and Dr. Clyde Angel will conduct services at 10 a.m. Friday at Commiskey Baptist Church. Burial will be in Vernon Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Thursday at Dove-Sharp and Rudicel Funeral Home, North Vernon, and after 9 a.m. Friday at the church. Memorials may be given to Commiskey Baptist Church through the funeral home.
