William C. "Bud" Deputy


William C. "Bud" Deputy, 91, of Commiskey passed away at 8:15 a.m. Friday, May 15, 2009, at his home.
Bud, as people knew him, farmed most of his life and worked for the Indiana State Highway Department as an inspector during the construction of Interstate 65 and then was employed during the years of 1964 until retiring in 1981 by the former Amoco Chemical now known as Silgan. He served as the Marion Township trustee in the 1960s and was a founding member of the Marion Township Community Center, where he served on the board for several years. He was a 1934 Marion High School graduate, a U.S. Army veteran, enlisting on Sept. 11, 1942, and being honorably discharged Dec. 9, 1945. During his enlistment he was honored with an Asiatic-Pacific Theater Ribbon with three Bronze Stars, Philippine Liberation with two Bronze Stars, Good Conduct Ribbon and the World War II Victory Medal.
He was a lifetime member of Seymour Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, Seymour American Legion Post 89, a collector of various items, a ham (amateur) radio operator and loved all kinds of animals, which he thought of as pets. He enjoyed attending auctions, NASCAR and mowing in all the different seasons. He also enjoyed visits and receiving communion from Pastor Marling of United Christian Church.
Born Oct. 26, 1917, in Paris Crossing, he was the son of Clarence and Maude Faulkner Deputy, both of whom preceded him in death. 
On April 12, 1947, he married Mae Dell Strode Deputy, who survives in Commiskey.
Other survivors include two sons, William Steven (Robin) Deputy of Crothersville and Larry W. Deputy of North Vernon; a daughter, Cynthia "Cindy" (Robert) Niemeyer of Commiskey; seven grandchildren, Christy (Matt) Dewees of Columbus, Steven Wayne (Beth) Deputy of Oldenburg, Kacee (Trent) Sorenson of Paris Crossing, Jessica (Brandon) Johnson of Commiskey, Stephen (Nikki) Bean of Spiceland, Samantha Niemeyer of Commiskey and Skylar Deputy of Nashville; and 10 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by a sister, Lois Borders.
Pastor Damon Marling will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Tuesday, at Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville with burial to follow at Cana Cemetery.
Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. until time of service Tuesday at the funeral home
