Seymour Tribune - October 31, 2009 Mary Etta Elkins 1920 - 2009 Mary Etta Elkins, 89, of Martinsville and formerly of Seymour, passed away at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 29, 2009, at her home in Martinsville. Mrs. Elkins was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, Seymour, where she served as president of Ladies Aid 1 for several years. She enjoyed reading, art and crafts, painting and stitching needlepoint. Born July 31, 1920, in Jackson County, she was the daughter of George C. and Frances A. Graves Dixon, both of whom preceded her in death. She married Walter Q. Elkins on Oct. 1, 1938, at St. John's Lutheran Church, White Creek. He preceded her in death Oct. 3, 2005. Survivors include a daughter, Julia Ballard of Alamogordo, N.M.; a son, David A. (Kristie) Elkins, Martinsville; six grandchildren; and five great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her son, Julian Thomas Elkins; daughter, Melody Ann Elkins; brother, Donald Dixon; and sister, Katherine Kerkhof. The Rev. Philip Bloch will conduct funeral services at 1 p.m. Monday at Burkholder Funeral Chapel, Seymour. Burial will take place at St. John Lutheran Cemetery, White Creek. Friends may call from 11 a.m. until time of service Monday at the funeral home.
