Seymour Tribune - February 2009 John D. Emily 1914 - 2009 John D. Emily, 94, of rural Seymour, passed away at 12:12 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22, 2009, at Scott Memorial Hospital in Scottsburg. Mr. Emily was a farmer, truck driver and construction worker. He was a former Jackson County commissioner, serving eight years, and was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church in Seymour. He built and was a founding member of the former Crothersville Masonic Lodge, where he served as worshipful master and was most recently a Mason at Washington Lodge 13 in Brownstown. Born Feb. 28, 1914, in Redding Township, he was the son of Fred and Nancy May O'Conner Emily. He married Northalena Murphy Emily, who preceded him in death. Survivors include two daughters, Jo Ann (Frank) Webster, Scottsburg, and Janet (Frank) Manger, Floyds Knobs; seven grandchildren, La Trecia (Kevin) Kasting, Seymour, Marla (Mike) Morris, Seymour, Steve (Tina) Webster, Clarksville, Scott (Wendy) Hendricks, Knoxville, Tenn., Kathy (Thomas) Williams, Seymour, Julie Ritchison, Scottsburg, and Christy (Philip) Hales, Columbus; 12 great-grandchildren; and one great- great-grandchild. He was preceded in death by two sons, infant John Jr. Emily and Robert Allen Emily; one brother; and four sisters. Pastor Dan McDonald will conduct funeral services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home, Crothersville. Burial will take place at Uniontown Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Tuesday and from 9 a.m. until time of service Wednesday at the funeral home. A Masonic service will be held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
