Seymour Daily Tribune January 30, 2007 Otis M. Ferguson Dec. 1, 1917 - Jan. 29, 2007 Otis M. Ferguson, 89, Brownstown, died at 6:10 a.m. Monday, Jan. 29, 2007, at Schneck Medical Center, Seymour. Mr. Ferguson was a member of St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, and was a World War II U.S. Army veteran serving with the 78th Lightning Division in the European Theater of Operation. He served in Rhineland at the Battle of the Bulge, was wounded and received the Purple Heart and the EAME Theater Ribbon with three bronze stars. He also received the Combat Infantry Badge. He retired from Kieffer Paper Mill in Brownstown after 42 years of employment. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1925, American Legion Post 89 and Fraternal Order of Eagles Aerie 655, all of Seymour. Born Dec. 1, 1917, in Jackson County, he was a son of Alex and Irene (Artie) Cockerham Ferguson, both of whom preceded him in death. On Dec. 30, 1940, in Louisville, he married Frona M. Weaver, who survives. Other survivors include a daughter, Carolyn L. (Forest Jr.) Boling, Freetown; a sister, Evelyn (Herb) Elmore, Dover, Fla.; two grandchildren, Gerald Boling, Brownstown, and Tawana M. (Kevin) Guthrie, Freetown; seven great-grandchildren, Brandon Boling, Kera Boling, Kyle Boling, Leah Boling, Hiaely Perry, Natasha Perry and Brittany (Matt) Thompson; and a great-great-grandchild, Shayla Leighanne Thompson. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Bill Ferguson, Charlie Ferguson, Henry Ferguson, Walter Ferguson and Virgil Ferguson, and three sisters, Mamie Herizog, Prudie Allman and Bernice Baurle. The Rev. Jack Belk will conduct funeral services at 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, Brownstown. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Full military graveside services will be conducted by VFW 1925, American Legion Post 89, Disabled American Veterans 47 and Vietnam Veterans 7, all of Seymour. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and from 9:30 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the funeral home. Memorials may be given to St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Brownstown, VFW Post 1925 or Schneck Medical Center Hospice.
