Seymour Tribune - November 9, 2009 Max Elmer Gambrel Max Elmer Gambrel, 89, of Tampico passed away at 1:20 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 8, 2009, at Schneck Medical Center in Seymour. He retired from Repp & Munt Construction Co. and was a 58-year honorary member of the Mill Right Carpenter's Union in Columbus. Mr. Gambrel was a member of Seymour Christian Church and Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 1083 in Crothersville. He served in the U.S. Army, enlisting Dec. 12, 1944, and was honorably discharged Jan. 4, 1946. He was a CB enthusiast and his handle was "Greenbriar." He still lived an active life until three weeks ago. He even installed new gutters on his home by himself and drove to Dairy Queen for breakfast. Born March 5, 1920, in Shelbyville, he was the son of Earl and Mary (Anderson) Gambrel. On Oct. 14, 1939, he married Dorothy Ellen Gambrel, who preceded him in death on March 8, 2002. Survivors include three sons, Max (Judy) Gambrel and Joseph (Linda) Gambrel, both of Seymour, and David (Linda) Gambrel, Crothersville; two daughters, Phyllis Reeves, Columbus, and Kathy (Steve) Stidam, Seymour; 18 grandchildren; and 53 great-grandchildren, and eight great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Charles Gambrel of Crothersville. Three brothers, two sons, stillborn baby Charles Eugene Gambrel, John William Gambrel, and a grandson, Daniel Alexander Gambrel, preceded him in death. Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Adams Funeral Home in Crothersville with burial to follow at Russell Chapel Cemetery in Crothersville. Friends may visit on Tuesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home and after 9 a.m. Wednesday.
