Seymour Daily Tribune Ava Nell McCrary Gatte April 17, 1921 – July 1, 2006 Ava Nell McCrary Gatte, 85, Brownstown, died at 7 p.m. Saturday, July 1, 2006, at Hoosier Christian Village, Brownstown. Mrs. Gatte was a member of Brownstown Christian Church, Brownstown, and was owner of Ava’s Beauty Shop for more than 40 years. She was a member of Eastern Star, Psi Iota Psi, Christian Auxiliary of Hoosier Christian Village, charter member of World War II Memorial and the American Legion Auxiliary. She was a very loving and devoted wife, mother and grandmother to her family and most especially to her three grandsons whom she adored. She had a special love for people and was blessed with so many wonderful friends throughout her lifetime who filled her life with many blessings, love and joy. She was an avid sports fan with a special love for basketball, which she shared with her daughter and friends. She had a special love for IU basketball and rarely missed watching a game. Above all in Ava’s life, she loved her Lord Jesus Christ and lived her life fully in His Grace and Love. She will be greatly missed by all whose love she touched, but will forever rest with her Lord in peace and love. Born April 17, 1921, she was a daughter of John O. McCrary and LaVesta Hurley McCrary, both of whom preceded her in death. On July 3, 1943, she married Robert Gatte, who preceded her in death on March 31, 1989. Survivors include one daughter, Pamela (Ron) Schneider, Brownstown; three grandchildren, Chad Schneider, Chase Schneider, and Chaz Schneider, all of Brownstown. She was preceded in death by one grandson, Cole Schneider; and one brother, Claude McCrary. Michael Hogg and Doug Pogue will conduct funeral services at 10 a.m. Thursday at Brownstown Christian Church. Burial will take place at Fairview Cemetery, Brownstown. Friends may call from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Spurgeon Funeral Home, and from 9 a.m. until time of service Thursday at the Brownstown Christian Church. Memorials may be given to Brownstown Christian Church, Hoosier Christian Village or the donor’s choice.
